Nordic Ski Team Summer Training
Special Interest
Welcome to the summer training season! The long-standing adage “skiers are made in the summer” cannot be more true. Summer training for high school competitors is becoming more common every year and it provides a great head start for skiers looking to improve their conditioning, technique, and understanding of the sport before the winter season. It is also a fantastic way for multi-sport athletes to build strength and endurance through a low-impact, full-body workout. Roseville’s summer training will consist of two weekday practices (Monday and Thursday) a week, and every other Tuesday we will work on strength training at Planet Fitness Roseville. High school students can obtain gym memberships for free there! Practices will begin June 10 and conclude before the fall sports season on August 8. Team captains may also elect to host practices on off-days to give teammates a chance to train with and learn from one another between official practices. The practices will most often entail roller skiing in various locations, however, some running/pole hiking/strength practices will be scheduled throughout the summer to evaluate and improve conditioning. All weekly practices and equipment needed for each practice will be sent out in an email from the coaches on Sunday evening A few of the locations we may visit include, but are not limited to the following: Battle Creek Regional Park, Maplewood Big Rivers Trail, Mendota Heights Franklin Ave Bridge, Minneapolis Como Lake Pavillion, Saint Paul Afton to Lakeland Trail, Afton Summer Ski Camp This year’s summer camp will be held in Rice Lake, WI from June 27 - 30. We have space for up to 12 athletes to comfortably stay at the lodging accommodations at OutThere Nordic Sports. The camp will be similar to the winter camp: we will have two workouts a day on the full days, an afternoon workout on the Thursday we arrive, and a morning workout on the Sunday of departure. Running, roller skiing, and swimming(!!) will be the focus there. Due to camp occurring earlier in the summer, a certain skill level and proficiency will be needed to participate in the camp. This will be up to the coaches’ discretion and we will communicate with athletes during the first few practices.
