The vagus (VAY-gus) nerve carries messages between the brain and the heart and digestive system. This nerve helps control the state of our nervous systems – rest/digest, fight/flight, and freeze – depending on our immediate circumstances as well as our learned responses. While changes among these states are largely automatic, we can learn to recognize our state and influence the transition, for example, from anxiety to a restful state, which can improve our mood as well as our relationships. Join me to learn about the vagus nerve and strategies to keep it balanced for a healthier, more connected life.
