This course focuses on water skills for children ages 3 to 5 that are ready to swim on their own! Students will build on their water skills and grow their independence. Promoting water safety from a young age will help to keep your child safe as they become more self-confident and believe in their abilities. Skills taught: Enter & Exit water from side Blow bubbles with nose (humming) Bobbing Front float for 3+ seconds Back float for 3+ seconds Jelly fish float for 3+ seconds Roll from back to front Roll from front to back Front glide (one body length) Back glide (one body length) “Scooping” and kicking on front 5 feet Flutter kicking on back 5 feet Elementary backstroke arms 5 feet (w/ support) Swim, Float, Swim 10 feet (w/ support) Jump in (w/ support) Follows Directions Water Safety Skills Note: Students who are still working on potty training MUST wear appropriate swim diapers and plastic covers. Students will be turned away if not wearing the appropriate swim diapers/covers.

Elementary Chess Club with CSGA

Whether you consider yourself a beginner or intermediate player, join this club to meet and interact with other chess players in your school and play on a weekly basis. If they are new to the game, players will learn the basic rules and strategies of chess. Tournament play is encouraged outside of the club, but not required. Players are able to complete a full game and recognize a checkmate and stalemate Players can set and use a chess clock during a game Players are able to resolve a disagreement with & w/o adults present Players can explain the rules of chess (movement of the pieces, checkmate, & stalemate)

This program offers a crash course in coding your own games on Scratch. Students will create and develop 3-4 basic games while learning many foundational computer science skills with boundless potential for creativity and expansion. Learn about role playing games &/or how to be a better Dungeon Master! Build on what you already know or just start. Work on bringing your imaginary worlds, environments, creatures, characters, equipment to life. Improve your storytelling. Learn fantasy cartography (map making) techniques. This camp will be very open ended and should be able to go where you want to go.

Strategy Game Buffet with CSGA
Science & Technology
Learn & play some of the latest multi-player Table Top Strategy Games! These include card card games & board games. Introduce yourself to deck building, worker placement, and cooperative games. Participants will have some choice of what they want to learn and play, from Settlers of Catan to Exploding Kittens. We have lots of options! We can always take a break each day and also incorporate games with physical activity as needed.

STEM Weather Explorers with CSGA
Academic
Learn how Meteorologists and National Weather Observers measure the weather and classify climate! Use and create basic measuring tools for recording environmental data that scientists and reporters use to describe the weather and climate. Practice recording and reporting your own weather data. Use remote sensing techniques with drones to acquire some of your data. Observe, Record, Analyze, Predict, and Report your findings. Official weather observers need dedication to public service, attention to detail, and the ability to learn and perform daily routines. Do you have what it takes?

Scratch Coding & Computer Games with CSGA
Science & Technology
This camp offers a crash course in coding your own games on Scratch. Students will create and develop 3-4 basic games while learning many foundational computer science skills with boundless potential for creativity and expansion. Tailored for the beginner with little to no experience coding on Scratch, we will begin with the basics and have students creating their own detailed, personalized games by the end of the week. Students will come home with a mobile account containing their games to share and play with the whole family!

Rocket Builder Design Camp with CSGA
Science & Technology
Learn to build and launch your own rockets from everyday common materials. Multiple design, building, and recovery techniques will be experimented with. Use 3D design software to design and 3D print some of the parts for your models. These rockets are cheap to make so it removes the anxiety of “doing it wrong”! Build it and see what happens, within the rules of model rocketry. A rocket launch is part of the program. Launch equipment is provided. We may have time to use simulations to experiment with real rocket variables and try to find out what it takes to move an object beyond earth’s gravity and possibly to other planets.

Chess Camp: Tactics & Strategies with CSGA

This chess camp is for players that need the next level of challenge from their school club. Maybe you’re ready to “try” tournament play. Maybe you want to “improve” your tournament play. Standard chess and variations will be used to improve your skills. Participants should be interested in a deeper level of instruction beyond the basics.

Northeast Regional Open Chess Final Tournament
Academic
Elementary and secondary chess players are invited to participate in the ""NE Regional Open Chess Final". Whether you participated in a chess club or not in the fall, winter, or spring, you are invited to compete in this short, fun tournament where you can play against students representing Mounds View, St. Anthony-New Brighton and Mahtomedi school districts! Time controls will be used when necessary to keep the tournament within time constraints. The format and recognition will be based on the number of registered participants in each grade level and school. Anticipated sections will be Secondary 7th-12th, Invitational Elementary (Top Club Players), Open Elementary K-1st & 2nd-6th. Pre-registration is encouraged, but walk-ins will be accepted. Tournament etiquette and procedures will be explained at the event for players new to tournament play. Players are not eliminated. Everyone plays in each round unless there is a bye because of an odd number of participants. Typically there are 4-5 rounds. Check-in will be 30 minutes before the posted start time. A great way to end of the Chess season. Concessions Available: Breakfast, Lunch & Snack Items Supervision will be provided. Parents/guardians are allow to stay, but are not allowed in the playing area and will be asked to wait in the lobby area. Mask will be required while playing across from your opponent, but optional elsewhere. This tournament is being held at Edgewood Middle School -5100 Edgewood Dr, Mounds View, MN 55112
