Join us to make glitter slime, glittery galaxies in a bottles, and more.

Disco Splash!
Dance your heart out with our new high intensity aerobics class! This is a combination of different dance styles and water exercise to help burn off calories to different themed days. This is a higher impact exercise class that will have loud music playing in the background. Participants must be able to maintain balance without assistance for the duration of class. Course is not recommended for those with limited mobility or joint issues. Participants must pre-register online/over the phone or pay cash at the door.

Learn about role playing games &/or how to be a better Dungeon Master! Build on what you already know or just start. Work on bringing your imaginary worlds, environments, creatures, characters, equipment to life. Improve your storytelling. Learn fantasy cartography (map making) techniques. This camp will be very open ended and should be able to go where you want to go.

Elementary Chess Club with CSGA
Academic
Whether you consider yourself a beginner or intermediate player, join this club to meet and interact with other chess players in your school and play on a weekly basis. If they are new to the game, players will learn the basic rules and strategies of chess. Tournament play is encouraged outside of the club, but not required. Players are able to complete a full game and recognize a checkmate and stalemate Players can set and use a chess clock during a game Players are able to resolve a disagreement with & w/o adults present Players can explain the rules of chess (movement of the pieces, checkmate, & stalemate)

Engineering: Rube Goldberg Machines with Tech Academy

Chain reactions! Design and build amazing moving machines and teach our Lego bricks new tricks! With an active imagination as your guide, there are endless possibilities. Students working in pairs will learn about physics and engineering concepts such as Velocity, Projectiles, Trajectories, Force, Motion, and more. Every day students will learn new ways to combine Legos to cause different chain reactions and, on the last day, design their own Rube Goldberg Machine.

Express Yourself: An Interactive Experience about Emotional Health

During Express Yourself we will learn about the power of our emotions for expressing ourselves and communicating with others. Using the popular movie Inside Out as a platform for conversation, we are going to draw from our personal life experiences and discuss how helpful (or unhelpful) all of our emotions can be. For one of our sessions, we will have an interactive workshop led by a member of the University of Minnesota counseling staff. The intention of this session is to help students learn how to be more aware of their emotions and practice tools to be more intentional about how to express them.

Extreme Robo-Games: Battle Bot Olympics with Tech Academy
Science & Technology
Students will work in small teams using the EV3 Mindstorms Robotic Systems and specialized LEGO® Technic™ engineering components to build extreme robots and run programs to experiment with and overcome Olympic-style challenges. Students will then be challenged to morph their projects into better, stronger, or faster robots. Possible robotic projects include Shot Put Launcher, Flipping Gymnast, Sumobot, and more. Students will be working in small teams of 2-3.

Classical fencing emphasizes the practice of the sword as an art, a science, and a recreational activity. Learn the basics of fencing with minimal rules and lots of play. You will learn at a comfortable pace and fence with others of all levels in a fun, safe, active environment. Fencing equipment provided.

Food is a fun way to celebrate diversity and learn about other cultures. Gain practical kitchen skills and learn techniques to make several unique dishes. Learn to throw together the perfect pasta dough and how to roll and slice it into noodles and make an alfredo sauce to smother your freshly made noodles. Discover the secrets to restaurant-quality egg rolls and samosas that can be made right in your own kitchen. These appetizers are jammed with flavors from around the world and can be a quick way to incorporate leftovers into something new and fun to eat. Make a variety of egg rolls, samosas and dipping sauces in class. Indulge yourself in this popular Chicken Pad Thai cooking class, whose name means “Thai stir-fry.” Build an authentic Pad Thai sauce with a diverse flavors your kids would love Demonstration, hands-on and tasting. Mouthwatering desserts will be served the last day of class. Receive a culinary diploma at the conclusion of class. Class includes all supplies and provides lunch daily.

Give back to the global community by hand packing meals at Feed My Starving Children. This experience will provide a service learning opportunity where students hand pack meals for communities in need. The afternoon will be spent having fun while giving back.

Intro to 3D Printing & CAD with Tech Academy
Science & Technology
This 3D printing camp takes students through the 3D printing process from start to finish. Students will design 3D objects using TinkerCAD and the 3D slicing program Cura to bring their creations to life. From industrial design and manufacturing to software and hardware engineering, the 3D printing industry is booming. This course is an excellent introduction to 3D printing and is ideal for students who like to draw, design, imagine, and see their creations come to life. Printing and material fees are included. Students will get to bring home two of their 3D creations. Students should have basic reading skills.

Create YOUR OWN VIDEO GAME! Love video games? Choose your storyline with popular Nintendo characters as your stars. Add challenges and difficulty levels. Then, share your game by email or post it on the web to challenge family and friends. Now students between 6 and 9 years old can practice math, logic, and programming and put their video game talents to work! Bring a USB drive to save your games on the last day. Intro to Jazz Band This camp is for all students who have completed 5th, 6th and 7th grade who have no prior jazz band experience but are interested in learning about Jazz. We will learn about the Blues Scale, Jazz articulations, and improvisation. Intermediate/Advance Jazz Camp This camp is for all students who have completed 5th, 6thand 7thwho have prior jazz band experience and are interested in furthering their jazz studies. We will learn about the Blues Scale, Mode Warm Ups, Jazz articulations, and improvisation. Join us for our final concert on Thursday, August 15th!

K-2 What Floats Your Boat - The Works Museum Field Trip

The Works Museum is a hands-on kids museum all about engineering! Through the interactive exhibits and design challenges, we will dig into the basics of engineering, science, and technology. We will also participate in a "what floats your boat" workshop where students will explore how things float! The Works Museum’s educators will guide students in experimenting with the buoyancy of materials and the shapes they take. Students will work with a limited set of these materials to create a boat that carries weight, which they will get to take home!
