Watercolor Painting: Intermediate

Adult Enrichment / Art -
Fall/Winter 2025

If you have some experience with watercolor, join this class to develop your skills. (Please note that this is not a beginner class. Look for my beginning classes in this catalog) Some skills you should have before taking this class are knowing the wetness and dryness of the media, how to mix basic colors, and understanding basic perspective principals. You will learn techniques, see demonstrations, receive guided instruction, and participate in one-on-one critiques. Expect to work on a variety of topics completing, at least, three paintings.

Materials Needed:

  • Sheets, Pad, or Block of 140 lb 11x15 watercolor paper (this can be Arches or other quality cold press paper that has a solid tooth; avoid Strathmore - Canson paper)
  • Board to put them on
  • 1 or more multi-compartment palettes or trays
  • 1 roll of better-quality paper towels
  • 1 #2 pencil
  • 1 ivory eraser (Staedtler Mars Plastic)
  • 1 roll of masking tape
  • 1 bottle mask-off (masking fluid) any color
  • 1 lightweight pair of scissors
  • 1 ruler at least 18 inches long
  • Tracing paper
  • A cup for water
  • Optional: a small misting bottle (an old hairspray bottle works well)
